Basic Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of engineering technology. Engineering Interns must be enrolled in an accredited degree program in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related scientific or technical discipline with a preference for a standing of a sophomore or higher. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required. Secret clearance will be required prior to starting the internship in May 2023. General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Total Shipboard Computer Environment (TSCE) Intern Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The Total Ship's Computing Environment is the critical computing system on board all LCS 2 variant class vessels. The TSCE Engineer interns are responsible for troubleshooting, repair, uploaded software and firmware, which maintaining active communications with other systems and sub-systems to include Navigational Sensors, Combat Systems and Ship's Networks. They initialize new communications requirements. Troubleshoots and/or coordinates the restoration of all ship's Navigation sensors, Network Centric Navigation data flow, Communications circuits, Engineering Control Systems, Total Ship's Computing Environment, and Mission Package Computing environment. This position spends the majority of their day working on board LCS ships supporting, testing, upgrades, and repair of networked systems. On hull work can consist of going up and down ladders, climbing into tight spaces, installation of network equipment to include lifting 50 lbs. servers into racks, and working on install software / network configurations . TSCE engineers are expected to interface directly with navy personnel both uniform and civilian to accomplish the mission. Tasking is dynamic and engineers must be able to multi-task and re-prioritizes based on the needs of the Navy while working independently and in a team environment. Interns will also enjoy a flexible work environment where contributions are recognized and rewarded.Representative Duties and Tasks:There are a number of closely related tasks performed in this position in support of our Littoral Combat Ship navy customers that specifically pertain to the Network & Computer Systems Administrators including:

  • Install, configure, and maintain an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), data communications network, operating systems and physical and virtual servers.
  • Perform system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of hardware, network, and server resources and systems. Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including system backups.
  • Analyze network and server resource consumption and control user access.
  • Install and upgrade software and maintain software licenses.
  • May assist in network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Proficient use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
    • Proficient knowledge of other related disciplines
    • Recognizes various architectural patterns
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
    • Proficient written and verbal communications skills
    • Proficient ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and effectively handle complex assignments
    • Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
    • Proficient ability in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
    • Proficient ability to clearly report relevant to sound systems engineering design.HOUSING STIPEND not included in the internship.


      Target salary range: USD $24.00/Hr. - USD $28.00/Hr. Note: The compensation information listed is a good faith estimate for this position only and is provided pursuant to the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and Equal Pay Transparency Rules. It is estimated based on what a successful Colorado applicant might be paid. It assumes that the successful candidate will be in Colorado or perform the position from Colorado. Similar positions located outside of Colorado will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Company Overview
