Primary Purpose: The Fixed-Route Bus Driver/Coach Operator involves all duties and responsibilities associated with safe transit vehicle operation, customer interaction and service. Duties include carrying out those functions safely, courteously and efficiently. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, employing defensive driving techniques, maintaining professional courtesy while under stress by way of street traffic and customer demand, properly answering questions and solving transportation related concerns of customers/passengers, and exercising prudent judgment under a variety of constantly changing operating conditions.Pay Scale - Starting Rate: $14.081st year $14.502nd year $15.383rd year $20.90This is a safety-sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the Transdev Drug & Alcohol policy and in compliance with the Department of Transportation.Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.     • All drivers drive Fixed-Route 40-45ft busses throughout the south half of San Diego County.
    • Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
    • Maintains current knowledge of and adherence to all Transdev operating policies, directives, and procedures.
    • Ensures timely arrival and departure from bus stops and time points. Must be able to adapt to unexpected detours, address corrections, and route changes.
    • Ensures the collection of bus fare from passengers.
    • Appears for work on time and ready to work. Adheres to Transdev San Diego Attendance Policy and governing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
    • Completes hand-written accident and incident reports accurately and legibly as necessary.
    • Must be able to use company communications systems and communicate clearly and effectively in person and over the radio.
    • Must be able to read a map and possess knowledge of the service area.
    • Must be hospitable, guest/customer service oriented, and be willing to serve the needs of passengers.
    • Additional certification requirements must be met under Section 391.49 of the DOT code concerning the loss or impairment of limbs.PHYSCIAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.       • Vertically transfer a bike rack weighing up to 35 lbs from a start height of 20 inches to an end height of 45 inches up to 1 time per hour.
      • Vertically transfer bus seats weighing up to 20 lbs from a start height of 16 inches to an end height of 35 inches up to six times per hour.
      • Vertically transfer a manual wheelchair ramp weighing up to 40 lbs from a start height of 0 inches to an end height of 48 inches up to 1 time per hour.Upper Extremity Push-Pull
        • Vertically push up an emergency exit ceiling hatch utilizing upper body forces only, at a height of 77 inches, requiring a mechanical force up to 75 lbs up to 1 time per hour.
        • Vertically pull down an emergency exit ceiling hatch utilizing upper body forces only, at a height of 77 inches, requiring a mechanical force up to 100 lbs up to 1 time per hour.
        • Horizontally pull wheelchair straps utilizing upper body forces only, at a height of 6 inches, requiring a mechanical force up to 5 lbs up to 12 times per hour.Couple
          • Grasp or squeeze coach door opening lever requiring forces up to 10 lbs up to 30 times per hour.Climb
            • Ascend and descend 2 steps with a height of up to 20 inches from the floor up to 6 times per hour.Confined Access / Space
              • Access or works within spaces with specific entries with a width of 26 inches. Repetitive Posture (Static)
                • Requires assuming a static kneeling posture to work at a distance 6 inches from the floor for up to 30 seconds up to 3 times per hour; and/or
                  • Requires assuming a static squatting posture to work at a distance 6 inches from the floor for up to 30 seconds up to 3 times per hour.Repetitive Posture (Dynamic)
                    • Requires assuming a repetitive kneeling posture to examine underneath the coach at a height 14 inches from the floor up to 5 times per hour.Sit
                      • Assumes a seated posture in the coach for a minimum of 1 hour continuously for a total of up to 4 hours.Walk
